Our history

KISH was founded in 1995 at the Sea Scout House in Petersham.

Our name derives from our first location:
KISH = Kids In the Scout House.

Thurit Berge, a native German teacher, opened KISH Kindergarten as a German speaking setting for children from German speaking backgrounds.

Katharina Haselberger joined in 2006 as an English speaker to support the daily routine in English and built the foundation for our bilingual concept as it stands today.

In 2019 KISH Kindergarten said goodbye to the Sea Scout House and found a new home in St Andrew’s Church Hall. With the great location, spacious rooms and garden, and the neighboring woodland, this setting quickly became our new home.

With our extensive experience with languages and language development, we have developed our bilingual concept, which is a big part of our ethos. Have a look at our ethos to find out more!

Nature education plays a big role in our KISH routine. We have always been big believers in learning together with the outdoors and have seen many children develop and learn from it in the last 28 years! The benefits of being outdoors are great – not only physically but also emotionally.

With our huge, natural garden and the woodland surrounding our nursery, we have plenty of spaces to explore and discover our environment! Have a look at our ethos to find out more!
